Recently, Marseille chairman Longoria talked about the decision to re-sign Aubameyang this summer in an interview.

In 2024, Aubameyang left Marseille to join Kudisiya in Saudi Arabia. This decision surprised Marseille. Despite being considered an irreplaceable player at the time, the Gabonese international chose to leave. Marseille president Longoria expressed great disappointment and made it clear that the club does not want Aubameyang to leave.

Initially, Longoria was firmly opposed to Aubameyang's departure, but eventually accepted the decision. According to L'Equipe, Aubameyang's father called Longoria several times to ask him to allow his son to transfer.

A year later, Aubameyang returned to Marseille. Regarding his return, Longoria explained: "This is a strategic decision. We discussed whether we are willing to spend 50 million euros to buy a 23-year-old forward, or have a high-level player like Aubameyang for free? He is familiar with the club and has performed very well in Saudi Arabia. I would rather take advantage of his competitive status than risk introducing a new player who needs to adapt."
