Everton head coach Moyes attended the pre-match press conference against Manchester City and talked about the team's injuries, key players and the challenge of facing the defending champion.
What is the latest injury situation of the team? What impact will Grealish's absence and Dewsbury Hall's return have on the team?
We let Branthwaite and Rohr return to the field for training. Unfortunately Patterson picked up an injury in the U21s game in midweek so we've had some bits and pieces. Hall is back after being suspended for a ridiculous two yellow cards. We will definitely get him back in the team.
Grealish's absence will be a loss for us (loaned players avoid the rules of their old clubs) because he played so well. We knew it was going to be like this when we came to play Manchester City, where he is on loan. We will regroup and be ready to face Manchester City.
How do you evaluate the team's top goalkeeper Pickford? What was your reaction to his contract extensions and those of Tarkovsky and others?
I'm very happy. The good news is that we've also signed Tarkovsky, Pickford, and Jarrard in the summer. They are three players who have made a huge difference to this team. I played with him at Sunderland and I always thought he would be a top goalkeeper. He was very, very good as a young goalkeeper and has improved over the years. I always joke: "Jordan always has crazy moments, but he also has brilliant moments."
The key is that Jordan is the best goalkeeper in England, otherwise someone else will take his place. At the time, I was still, and have remained, close to Bill Kenwright and a lot of people associated with Everton. When I left he asked me about the guy there and I said: "That goalkeeper is an outstanding young goalkeeper." I think Everton signed him that summer.
What do you think of the challenge against Manchester City?
I think the Manchester City that we have known over the years is almost unstoppable and I think at this moment you have a better chance of getting a result against Manchester City. It's still very difficult to do this. Other teams have gone out there and done it, and we have to do it too.
What do you expect from striker Beto?
He's a great lad and the dedication he puts into his job is second to none, so you can only give him credit for that. We hope he gets back to what he did in the past, taking the ball away from opponents and scoring goals. When I came last season, he had maybe eight or nine one-on-one opportunities. Maybe because of the way we play now, we have more possession, so he maybe doesn't have as much space to get in behind.
What does Dwight McNeil need to do to return to the main lineup?
He must continue to work hard to get into the team. Dwight can give us something we want. He has the ability to create goals and create goals. But he has competition now. He performed well in the game he played for the U21s a few days ago.
