Why is the dog suddenly aggressive?

If your usually quiet and friendly dog companion suddenly starts showing signs of aggression, it may be that he feels undiagnosed pain somewhere in his body. Painful dogs are in danger and react aggressively when touched. That is, pets will become violent in pain, while dogs that already tend to attack will become more aggressive.

This scientific study examined the aggressive status of 12 pain-related dogs, mainly large dogs.

In a retrospective study released in 2013, Grassroots democratic universities in Barcelona, Italy

A team of scientific researchers at the utonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) analyzed 12 aggressive breeding dogs—a giant Schnauzer, a Spanish Cheddar, a pitbull, a great dane, a Naples Mastiff, a Shih Tzu, a Ancient Shepherd, a Catalan Shepherd, a Chow Chow, a Doberman, and two German Shepherds.

All dogs (11 males and 1 female) were diagnosed as aggressive. Among these 12 dogs, 8 had hip dysplasia, but they did not know that there was no relationship between the causes of pain and the characteristics of aggressive behavior.

The owners of the two dogs completed a questionnaire to help clarify under which situations their dogs are more powerful, in which situations the dog has offensive intentions, and its offensive development goals (usually their own owners), desire level (whether there is early warning information before the attack occurs), and whether the level of aggressive behaviors demonstrated will endanger the development trend of the subsequent pain situation.

If the dog is stroked during pain, they will react overreaction

The dogs are divided into two groups, one showing off before they feel pain, and the other showing off after pain. These dogs who are not aggressive before pain symptoms:

More desire (more easily without warning information before attack)

In a large number of situations, they will show aggressiveness because the human body is manipulated. In a large number of situations, they will put the human body into a defensive posture

According to academic research, this conclusion that previously exhibited aggressive behaviors can cause key harm to the dog's offensive methods of the pain relationship. In addition, this study shows that pain caused by hip aches is a primary condition for aggression in large dogs. Tomàs Camps, the key writer of the investigation report, said in a statement: "If a pet is touched by someone in pain, he will quickly overreact to prevent further discomfort caused by the owner's home. These dogs who have never shown aggressiveness before the pain have begun to show aggressive behavior when many people try to manipulate them."

The effective information that people can obtain is: When your dog suddenly becomes more and more aggressive, I strongly ask the pet doctor to conduct an inspection. If a dog who likes peace suddenly appears, it is likely that they are already in a painful situation and must assist. The faster the assistance, the better.

Another condition for dogs to suffer pain is that they are more sensitive to noise

A 2018 scientific study proposes that dogs who show fear or depression when hearing extreme or sudden noise should be assessed for pain. Scientific researchers found that dogs with muscles and human bones all over the body are more sensitive to noise. According to the People's Daily of Science Research:

"Scientific research staff feel that when noise makes dogs anxious or 'scared', the pain in the dog will be aggravated, and this type of pain may not be diagnosed. The noise will increase additional working pressure on the muscles or joints that have been inflammatory, which will cause further pain.

After that, this type of pain is connected with the extremely high or frightening noise, causing the dog to be more sensitive to noise. The dog will prevent the dog from coping with the unsatisfactory experiences he had experienced before - such as a house that had noise in a park or at home."

Animal behaviorists at Lincoln University in the United States have scientifically investigated 20 dogs who were diagnosed with noise-sensitive diagnosis in the disease recorded by pet doctors. They were divided into 2 groups: 10 were diagnosed with whole-body muscle skeletal pain (hip dysplasia, rheumatism and focal spondylosis), and 10 were not painful.

All 20 dogs are sensitive to noise, including shock, trembling and avoidance. Little do people know that pain dogs have a lot of symptoms to avoid the noise. It causes more sensitive fireworks, lightning, airports, shootings, car sounds and motorcycle sounds.

Scientific research also found that the age of dogs in the pain group being more sensitive to noise was 4 years later than the average control experiment. In addition, dogs diagnosed with pain have gradually increased their sensitivity to noise related to the natural environment and will bypass other dogs; while dogs in the control experiments are not easy to do so.

Treat dog pain

How to manage dog pain depends on the cause of the pain. This is why it is important to book a routine physical examination, which can find the direct cause of potential pain.
