In an interview, David Gordo, head coach of the Spanish U21 national team, talked about Christian Mosquera, a defender who plays for Arsenal.
The 21-year-old Spanish defender Mosquera transferred to Arsenal from Valencia this summer. He has played 11 times for Arsenal this season and is considered one of the most promising talented defenders in Spain. Mosquera was selected for the new Spanish U21 national team and will participate in the 2027 European Youth Championship qualifiers.
Spain U21 coach David Gordo said: "I have known Christian since he was 14 years old. He is not only an excellent player, but also a great person. Christian is a very smart child, and anyone who has talked to him will find this."
Mosquera's parents are Colombian, so he is also eligible to be selected for the Colombian national team and participate in next year's World Cup. David Gordo responded: "He knows what is best for himself and is in a very good stage of growth and progress. I believe he will become a very important player for the Spanish national team."
David Gordo continued: "He is in the Premier League. Excellent performance? I'm not surprised. Christian is a very smart kid with a very clear mind. Now he is in an environment that helps him a lot, and it is good for him to get out of his comfort zone, which allows him to grow and show his best self."
David Gordo also said: "He is facing a new language, a new culture, and a different mentality. It is a completely different style of football from La Liga, which will make him a better player and a better person. And the people around him in the Arsenal dressing room are very Excellent, he has some great teammates, even teammates from the national team, and I know they will give him a lot of help."
Arsenal signed Mosquera for only 15 million euros this summer, and now his value has reached 35 million euros. David Gordo finally said: "I agree with you, this is a great deal. I hope Spanish clubs can also invest more in our young players. They are very good and should not have to go abroad just to prove their value."
