When you mention creative people, what characteristics do you think of? Are you smart, quick to react, empty, outgoing or very rebellious?

American positive psychologist and author of the famous book "Flow", Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi believes that people with high creativity are different from ordinary people, but they do not have a particularly high IQ, but they have "contradictory" personality traits.

In his latest book, Creativity, The Psychology of Discovery and Invention, 91 Among them are inventors, writers, and scientists who have won the Nobel Prize. They have all created their own works in their fields of work.

In his research, he found common characteristics that 10 creative people possess, but at the same time he also discovered that these people also have these opposite characteristics. "They integrate various contrasting colors like color to create new possibilities." These 10 contradictory characteristics include:

1. They can steadily

When they are focused on doing things, they can work hard in their seats as calmly as stones, and at the same time have high physical energy.

2. They are more intelligent than others, and are as innocent as children.

Highly creative people are very smart. They can find that many people do not find problems, but many times they are as immature as children. They use "child prodigy" to describe them as good.

3. They are both responsible and not responsible.

Highly creative people are self-disciplined and will abide by the rules. However, many times they decide to do something without considering too many consequences, which is a little reckless.

4. They are both realistic and heaven and earth

When they create and think of an object or point, they will consider their actual needs, but the things they produce are always highly creative.

5. They are both outward and inward, and are not dichotomous, but are divided into levels like color adjustment. People with high creativity often fall in the middle, and at the same time have inward and outward personalities. They desire to contact others and gain the attention of others, and at the same time they need their own unique time.

6. They are both proud and vain

They are very proud of their talents, but at the same time they also know that they are standing on the shoulders of giants. Without the inspiration of the forefront and the help of others, they would not have produced such an independent work.

7. They also have the characteristics of yin surname and yin.

In Csikszentmihalyi's research, it was found that yang characteristics such as high ambition and high ambition can be found in creative girls, while yin characteristics such as gentleness can be found in creative boys.

8. They respect tradition and are rebellious. They understand social and cultural regulations and are willing to follow them, but if they find that the matter is unreasonable, they will not be obedient.

9. They are both subjective and objective

They are always enthusiastic about their work and works, but no matter how much they love, they can retain a "objective perspective" to see where they need to be improved.

10. Sometimes they are happy and sometimes they are confused.

They always gain a lot of sense of accomplishment and a lot of loss at work.

Csikszentmihalyi believes that these ten contradictory characteristics are discovered in people with high creativity, but not only these ten characteristics can explain the characteristics of people with high creativity. Even if you do not have these ten characteristics at the same time, it does not mean that this person does not have creativity.

This research has given us an enlightenment: having creativity is not entirely about sky and sky, breaking rules, and following the enthusiasm. In many cases, conforming to reality, following rules and viewing ourselves in a customary way is also an important connotation of creativity.
